4 Tips for Juggling Work and College!

    Last updated 1 year ago

Many people return to school to get their undergraduate or graduate degree while they are working at a part-time or full-time job. It can be a challenge to successfully finish school and still hold down a job while keeping up with the other responsibilities in your life. Here are some tips to help you attend school while you are working:

    Get Organized

A daily planner can be your best friend if you are attending school and working. Write down all of your work and school assignments as soon as you know when they are due to avoid missing anything. Create a space where you can focus on schoolwork, and keep all of your things for work and your things for school in a specified place.

    Make a Schedule

Creating a schedule can make using a planner even more effective. If you know when everything is due, you can plan study time, work time, family time, and personal time without letting anything slide.

    Take Night or Online Courses

You probably work your job during the day, so you may need to take evening or night classes to complete your degree. You may also want to consider online classes for extra flexibility. Some universities even offer Saturday classes, so you can spend your week working and your weekend studying and advancing your education.

    Delegate Responsibilities

Review your responsibilities to see if there are any that can be delegated to someone else while you attend class. Some tasks at work may be perfect for an intern or another employee, and you may be able to enlist help from a family member to allow you to focus on school while you are at home. Ask your spouse or partner to take over a few of your chores, and remind him or her of the payoff you’ll both enjoy when you finish school.

If you are interested in attending school in San Antonio, call Wayland Baptist University at (210) 782-9665 for information on our undergraduate and graduate degrees. With our flexible options, we make it possible for you to attend school while working.

This is not an area that is right for everyone, and you may be wondering if you are the right type of person for the job. Here are some signs that you should pursue a degree in education:

    • You Love Working With Kids
People who have a passion for working with children often do well in the educational field. Loving kids, understanding kids, and being able to relate to them are essential qualities to have if you want to become a teacher or other professional in the educational arena.

    • You Want To Help Others
You must have the passion and desire to help other people in order to work in education. If you want to make a positive difference in someone's life, then education may be right for you.

    • You Like Working In An Educational Environment
The classroom environment is unlike any other. As a teacher, you'll face unique challenges that someone working in any other field will likely never face. If you love the challenge that the classroom presents and want to spend your life in an academic environment, then a degree in education can give you skills you need to manage your classroom most effectively.

    • You Are A Good Communicator
