A Look at the Nursing Programs Offered by Wayland Baptist University

    Last updated 2 years ago

In this economy, finding a secure job is harder than ever. However, with the right education, you can find a rewarding career in the high-growth field of nursing. As baby-boomers continue to age and the population as a whole grows, the demand for highly trained nurses is bound to increase, providing plenty of fulfilling careers for individuals with the proper education. Here is a look at the nursing programs offered by Wayland Baptist University:

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Getting a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, or BSN, is a great way to prepare for a long and fulfilling career in the nursing field. Students who decide to pursue a BSN undertake both clinical work and academic study. These students gain experience working in various hospital departments like pediatrics, psychiatry, maternity, and surgery. On the academic side, BSN candidates receive extensive training in the physical and social sciences, communication, and leadership. With the skills learned in a BSN program, graduates are qualified to work as entry-level nurses. They can also work in administration and education.

    • RN to BSN

With the RN to BSN program, students who are already registered nurses can study to receive their BSN. While registered nurses are qualified to work as staff nurses, earning a BSN can help these individuals gain additional knowledge and skills. With a BSN, a registered nurse can expect increased job security. Furthermore, a BSN equips graduates to work in other positions, including administration and management.

    • Master of Science in Nursing

The Master of Science in Nursing, or MSN, program is exclusively for students who have already earned a BSN. Earning an MSN is a great way for a nurse to further his or her career. The degree program focuses on curriculum development, teaching strategies, evaluation, and adult learning. These skills help prepare students to work in nursing education programs.

Studying to become a nurse is a great way to find a new and exciting career. To learn more about the various nursing programs offered at San Antonio’s Wayland Baptist University, call us at (210) 782-9665.

Learn To Develop and Write Research Papers on Religious and Ethical Topics

    Last updated 2 years ago

Wayland Baptist University is offering  a new course; RLGN 0001.

RLGN 0001, Theological Research and Writing Lab, is a Hybrid course offered for the first time in San Antonio this summer.  It will help students develop and write research papers on religious and ethical topics assigned for the students’ upper-level RLGN and RLED course or courses.  The course will take students individually, one-on-one by email with Dr. Andrewartha, step-by-step through the writing process, doing a piece of the project each week for 8-9 weeks.  At the end, students will have completed the paper(s) assigned by their regular class instructors.

There will be two opportunities for face-to-face Introduction and Orientation meetings, but the course work is done by email.  These meetings will be in Room 102 on Saturday, May 26, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, and Saturday, June 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Students attend either (or both if they wish).

RLGN 0001 is a requirement for graduation for all students in the BCM and BAS in Religion degrees, and is a prerequisite for all upper-level RLGN and RLED courses.  If students have not already passed RLGN 0001, they can take it concurrently with the upper-level course(s).  It is non-credit and graded only pass/fail.  No tuition is charged.  The only cost is a $50.00 lab fee.  The necessary manual and course materials are free downloads.

For more information, email Dr. John Andrewartha at john.andrewartha@wayland.wbu.edu; go online to www.sa.wbu.edu [click Academics; click Class Syllabi; click Summer 2012; click RLGN 0001]; or online to Blackboard (after registering for the course).
